New White House press secretary vows to rebuild trust, return ‘truth and transparency’

White House press secretary Jen Psaki vowed Wednesday to rebuild trust with Americans and stressed the importance of “truth and transparency,” as she opened her first briefing of the Biden administration.

Psaki met with reporters in the White House briefing room just hours after President Joe Biden was inaugurated, and took questions and reviewed executive actions signed by the new president.

The White House briefing room was used infrequently during the Trump administration, by press secretaries including Sarah Sanders and Kayleigh McEnany. Former President Donald Trump frequently tweeted announcements instead, and used his now-suspended Twitter

“Rebuilding trust with the American people will be central to our focus in the press office and in the White House every single day,” Psaki said.
