Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene gets 12-hour Twitter suspension for ‘multiple’ violations

Twitter Inc. suspended the account of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for 12 hours on Sunday due to “multiple violations” of its misinformation policy.

“The account referenced has been temporarily locked out for multiple violations of our civic integrity policy,” a Twitter spokesperson said Sunday.

Greene, a Georgia Republican and a supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theory, has repeatedly posted incendiary comments and false claims about fraud in the presidential election.

has cracked down on the spread of misinformation in recent months, and taken even more aggressive action following the siege of the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters on Jan. 6, which left five people dead.

“Given the violent events in Washington, DC, and increased risk of harm, we began permanently suspending thousands of accounts that were primarily dedicated to sharing QAnon content,” Twitter said in a blog post last week.

According to Twitter’s civic integrity policy, accounts can be permanently suspended “for severe or repeated violations of this policy.” President Donald Trump was banned from the service on Jan. 8 “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

In a statement Sunday, Greene said: “Conservative Americans shouldn’t be afraid to speak their mind. They shouldn’t have to fear being cancelled by American corporations.”
